It's alive! Namely this website and a few other services that I managed to get running on my home server. It might not be highly available, reliable or scalable, but I own the infrastructure and I think that's pretty cool.
The words you are reading are stored in a MariaDB database that is accessed through a Drupal back-end. It features a minimalist custom theme that is based on my older Eleventy site. It's all hosted on a used server tower that I bought on union busting eBay.
I recently read The Boring Internet by Terry Godier. It's about the internet before the tech giants took over. It talks about the old protocols and the cool stuff that people were doing with them. And how it's all still there only hidden under a veneer of enshittified corpo trash. The article inspired me to keep working on this project and try to build some more cool stuff. Like a MUD in JavaScript of all things.
I hope to post more here. Maybe even go more in-depth on how I created my home-lab. Share my thoughts on gardening. Write random poetry. Who knows! This is my site. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
